Disagree.

Though the real winner is whoever comes up with a modern Streets of SimCity so I can drive through my city (car minigame from SC4: Rush Hour doesn’t count)

Streets Of SimCity was a really good game!

Like 90% of the conversation involving Cities Skylines. “There’s a mod for that”.

I wish I could go back, I really do but I need an agent system in my city builders. Anno and Tropico weaned me off the fakery of Simcity 4 and City Skylines is more than scratching my city builder itch.

As a lifelong SC fan, I did not really like SC4. It took the difficulty level beyond what many gamers were willing to tolerate.

It’s been nearly a decade since I touched a city sim, but I may have to give this a try.

SimCity (the one that everyone hated from a couple years ago) is better than Cities Skylines, since it’s actually fun.

Maxis games tend to have a very steep learning curve. Took me years to get good at SimCity, The Sims, and Spore.

Maxis games are good when EA doesn’t intrude at every corner.

SimCity was great, but I quit playing it years ago. Then my kids introduced me to SimCity Buildit. It’s more about resource management and trading. I’ve had some fun with it, but the trading sucks. There’s no way to search for the items you need and joining the mayor’s clubs where you can make trade requests is a crapshoot. If they could fix that part, it would be much better.

Why is everyone so hard on skylines? That game tickles my neat and orderly brain portions like some sort of illicit chemical

And SC3K is better than every other version of SC before or since.

I still enjoy the soundtrack, and have it in my MP3 collection.

This is so, so wrong. SimCity 4 was just... small.

That soundtrack is the number one reason I love booting that game up. I wish it would run natively in windows 7 64bit though. I have to use windows XP mode to get it to work but its so worth it. I have lost many many hours to that game.

Cities Skyline is a prettier, better featured game, but SC3k runs so much better even on the giant maps full of stuff. I love that I have actually gotten good at SC too. I do wish the bridge and tunnel tools worked better though.

Why is this map so small and devoid of water and mountains? Takes the hard part out of it lol.

Nah it’s only a minority that prefer it to Skylines.

The major problem people have with Skylines is that transportation is annoying to manage on it. If people really hate that then they don’t like the game. To me it’s fun.

I purchased SC3K on one of the online game seller sites for next to nothing and it runs great on Win10 without issues. Best couple of bucks I ever spent.

http://www.jerrymartinmusic.com/

Here’s the website for the composer of that great music. He has all of the sc3k stuff up there as well as work he’s done for other games and a bunch of non-game stuff as well. Well worth poking around over there.

Yeah I still have the original CD that I used with Windows 98 lol. The artwork advertising for a “new game” from Maxis “The Sims”, like the original one. I also have that one but it doesnt seem to run in WinXP mode very well. I really wanted to install Sims Unleashed again but sadly that had no hope of working. I refuse to pay for the same game a second time.

Toget around that problem I just built a secondary computer out of spare parts, running 98, just for old games. The hardware is nothing by today’s standards but when running 98 it’s like one of those $10,000 dream machines that the magazines used to build.

If I wasnt moving soon, i would totally do this. I had to throw out most of my old computer components which included some functioning but totally useless computers that I had laying around for linux fun and stuff. I think I will be able to keep the most useful one and I might as well just do this with it anyways.

I did almost the same. I built up this AMD machine before I moved, and when I did move I gave away most of my ancient components and systems and would not be able to duplicate this computer if I wanted to without spending stupid amounts for old garbage.
